Using Squarespace for your church website brings with it so many advantages, things like an easy builder, great SEO, modern designs, and an affordable price. But one thing Squarespace doesn’t have is a sermon library function.
Sermon libraries are one of those things that only churches need and since Squarespace is a more generic platform, you just won’t find one in there.
However, there’s an easy work around that when done right, can actually give you even more design and function flexibility.
Here’s how you build a sermon library into Squarespace.
Create a new blog
The blog feature is the page type that’s going to power your sermon library. Why? Because blog allow you to organize posts by date, author, tag or category. Or in the case of sermons, by sundays, teacher, topics, and series.
Here’s how to do it.
Create a sermon post template with filters
The blog feature is the page type that’s going to power your sermon library. Why?
It’s because church websites are primarily used by people who are searching for a church, not people who currently go to that church. And this particular audience is interested in the kinds of things NEW people want to know like worship service information, beliefs, and (you guessed it) info about who is leading the church.
Add a gallery section for series art
Next you’re going to need a place to have your sermon art so people can sort according to series.
To do this, create a gallery section on your blog page and upload all of your sermon art to this gallery. Once your art is uploaded, go ahead and link each image to the series category you created in step 2.
Add a design features
Go ahead and add some designs to your sermon library page. You can do this with a header section, alternating background color between sections, adding a featured sermon section, whatever you like.
Launch your sermon library
Once you’ve uploaded all of your sermons to the new blog, you’re ready to launch your sermon library page! Just drag the page into your main navigation and make sure to keep the blog up to date with new sermons each week!
