The Importance of Target Audience and Church Websites

One of, if not the most important marketing question anyone can ask is “who is our target audience”. It is more important than your copywriting, creativity, or platform. This is because EVERYTHING you build, create, and craft should be done with this very specific target audience in mind.

And yes, this also goes for churches.

Churches have too long been under the impression that everyone is their target audience because the church is called to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to everyone. While this general interpretation of the great commission is certainly true, it would be wrong, inaccurate, and downright impossible for your individual church to reach absolutely everyone.

This may seem like a bummer thing to say, but I believe it to be both true and a relief. Why? Because I know that I’m not personally equipped to reach every person in the world, so why should that be expected of my church?

That’s why it's so great that we have so many different kinds of churches, in order to reach all the different people out there. Whether you want traditional worship, high energy children’s ministry, vibrant small groups, or in-depth preaching, there is a church out there for everyone.

So before you create your website, you want to first think about who your church is trying to reach and then create your website with this target audience in mind. Everything else will follow.
